1931 — A Community Swimming Pool

In 1931, American Legion Post 76 took on an important community project by building and maintaining the first public swimming pool in Iowa County. The pool provided generations of local residents with a place to gather, swim, and enjoy the summer months. In 1973, after more than four decades of service to the community, Post 76 sold the pool to the City of Marengo.

1951 — Bringing a Hospital to Marengo

In 1951, Post 76 played a leading role in bringing a hospital to the Marengo community. The Post served as the sponsoring organization for the effort to establish Marengo Memorial Hospital, created as a lasting memorial to the veterans who served during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. The hospital represented not only a significant investment in the community's future, but also a meaningful tribute to those who had served their country.

On March 25, 2023 American Legion Post 76 broke ground on a brand new building. It was a monumental and historic day for us and our community.

We are grateful to all of our community partners who made this possible.
